Lounge FFD LogoDon’t miss Lounge FFD’s exclusive, once-a-year appearance during the Fall for Dance Festival at New York City Center! For each Fall for Dance performance, the public atrium between 55th and 56th Streets (immediately west of the theater’s main entrance) is transformed into a vibrant gathering place for audience members, performers and neighborhood friends. Featuring music by a rotating roster of NYC DJs, Lounge FFD offers a place to relax and mingle, share a cocktail and have a snack, before and after the show as well as during intermission  while video monitors throughout the Lounge follow the action onstage. Lounge FFD is open to the general public as well as to Festival artists and attendees.  No tickets are required and everyone is welcome, so dine, drink and dance!

Tap instructor Mike Schulster

Mike Schulster graduated from NYU Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in 2001 and has taught and choreographed all over the world at workshops, conventions and Master Classes.  He is the creator of the Revolution Tap method (www.revolutiontap.com).  He is also the creator/choreographer of the Rock n’ Roll Dance show REVOLUTION. (www.revolutiontheshow.com). Recently, he formed Dance Temp, a company that connects dance schools with dance teachers for permanent and substitute jobs. (www.dancetemp.com). He has performed with Gregory Hines, Brenda Bufalino, and Barbara Duffy, as well as studied with Savion Glover and Buster Brown.  Michael toured Europe as a soloist in the show ‘Fire of Dance’.  He has performed at the international “Goodwill Games” as well as the 2000 NBA playoffs at Madison Square Garden. He is currently teaching At NYU, Broadway Dance Center and is on staff at NYC Dance Alliance.

Tango with instructor Jessamine Jones

Jessamine Jones has danced ballroom as a competitor, for show, as an instructor and for pure joy.  She learned to dance as a leader and follower on the Colby College Ballroom team.  She later met her long time dance partner, Blaine Reed, in Boise Idaho where they taught at a small studio together and performed for various local events.  Since she moved to New York City in 2006 to attend Columbia University, she has taught at Dance Fever Studios in Brooklyn and performed at a large album release party in Queens that was broadcast on UniVision. She and Blaine taught a tango lesson for The Fall for Dance Festival in 2007 and they are pleased to be back.

Capoeira with Instructor Mucuiu of Arte Capoeria Center

Instrutor Mucuiú was born in Belém do Pará, in the north of Brazil and grew up in Rio de Janeiro. He has a black belt in judo and has competed in many tournaments. His first contact with Capoeira was in 1985 with Mestre Caio in Rio de Janeiro. In 1989, he began studying with Mestre Camisa and has been training with him ever since. In the summer of 1990, Mucuiú came to the U.S. In New York, he has been training with Mestranda Edna Lima and Professor Bom Jesus. Mucuiú has been a featured Capoeira performer with several important American and international dance companies. He has performed with Samba Nova at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center and with Roots of Brazil at Yale University. Instrutor Mucuiú travels frequently to Brazil to attend capoeira workshops and competitions, and at the ABADÁ Capoeira Brazilian Games in 2002, he won the prize for "Best Purple Cord". In September 2003, Instrutor Mucuiú opened "Arte Capoeira Center", NYC’s first studio specialized in capoeira regional and Brazilian performing arts. The Arte Capoeira Center and Mucuiú have been featured in local and international publications, as well as in the popular TV program "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy".

Revelations Workshop with Nasha Thomass-Schmitt, Co-Director of Ailey’s Arts In Education & Community Programs

Nasha Thomas-Schmitt
Responsible for overseeing education/outreach programs administered by the Ailey organization, Ms. Thomas-Schmitt is the principal liaison between Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation and the arts and education community in New York City as well as nationwide. A principal Ailey dancer from 1986 to 1998 and a former director of the Ailey Dancers' Resource Fund, she works to establish partnerships and implement dance education residencies with schools and organizations , hires and supervises teaching artists and keeps the Ailey organization informed about current education trends, concerns and opportunities. She also works with local communities to develop AileyCamps across the nation. A graduate of New York's High School of the Performing Arts and Southern Methodist University, Ms. Thomas-Schmitt also teaches dance in the United States and abroad.
