Fall for Dance Festival
Oct 1 – 13, 2019
The 16th Fall for Dance Festival kicks off our 76th season with three City Center Commissions: tap phenomenon Caleb Teicher expands his 2018 Fall for Dance hit Bzzzz, Kyle Abraham develops a solo for American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Misty Copeland, and Kim Brandstrup creates a duet for New York City Ballet principal dancers Sara Mearns and Taylor Stanley. That’s just a small part of this iconic event—all for the price of a movie ticket. From cherished companies to new and dynamic artists from all over the world, the five programs—many with live music—promise to challenge and delight. Fall in love with dance for the first time or all over again!
Houston Ballet
Oct 24 – 26, 2019
Houston Ballet will celebrate their 50th Anniversary Season with a program of contemporary works by Aszure Barton, Mark Morris (NY Premiere), and Justin Peck (NY Premiere). This marks the company’s largest engagement in New York since their season at The Joyce Theater in 2013 and their first program at City Center since 1986.
Annual Gala Presentation

Our Gala presentation features a new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s acclaimed rock opera Evitadirected by Sammi Cannold. Funds raised at all performances will allow City Center to continue making the best of the performing arts accessible to the widest possible audience by subsidizing education programs and affordable tickets throughout the year.
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

"Cultural ambassador to the world," and City Center’s resident dance company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to our stage for their annual holiday season, heralding five weeks of riveting dance programming.
Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake

Retaining the iconic elements of the original production loved by millions around the world, Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake returns to City Center in a bold, new incarnation. The show that “changed the dance landscape forever” turns Tchaikovsky’s classic work into a love story for our times—audacious, witty, and touching.

Mack & Mabel
Feb 19 – 23, 2020
The Encores! season opens with Jerry Herman and Michael Stewart’s Mack & Mabel. Follow the dramatic, romantic entanglements of silent movie pioneer Mack Sennett and his comedienne-muse Mabel Normand. Relive Herman’s timeless score which includes the beloved ballads, “Time Heals Everything” and “I Won’t Send Roses.”
Nederlands Dans Theater
Mar 4 – 7, 2020
Innovative and aesthetically exquisite, Nederlands Dans Theater returns to City Center with a trio of works that range from sweet to thrilling to idiosyncratic—touching on the complexity of the human experience.

Love Life

Love Life, the only collaboration between Kurt Weill and Alan Jay Lerner, is a journey through American history with a family that never grows any older. Directed by Victoria Clark, the story is accentuated with vaudevillian acts and features some of Weill’s most beautiful and accessible songs, including “Mr. Right,” and “Here I’ll Stay.” Little-seen but much-discussed, Love Life has had a large and direct impact on Broadway shows such as Gypsy; Cabaret; Follies; and Hallelujah, Baby!
Flamenco Festival 20/20

The year 2020 marks the 20th Anniversary of this beloved festival—a citywide celebration of Flamenco. Featured are leading-edge artists of the genre such as Rocío Molina, María Pagés, and Manuel Liñan as well as Gala Flamenca that brings together premier artists from across the spectrum of this passionate artform.
Dance Theatre of Harlem

Dance Theatre of Harlem continues their 50th Anniversary celebration, to push the boundaries of classical ballet through an eclectic repertoire.
Martha Graham Dance Company

The oldest dance company in America will present the second season of The EVE Project with masterpieces by Graham including Circe, Every Soul is a Circus, and Night Journey, presented alongside newly commissioned works by Maxine Doyle and Bobbi Jene Smith, Pam Tanowitz, and a world premiere by Andrea Miller.

Thoroughly Modern Millie

Dick Scanlan and Jeanine Tesori’s Thoroughly Modern Millie is a raise-the-roof tribute to the indomitable spirit of New York and the diverse people who call it home and features showstopping numbers like “Forget About the Boy” and “Gimme Gimme.” Starring Ashley Park (Mean Girls, The King and I) with direction by Encores! Resident Director Lear deBessonet, and playwright Lauren Yee working with the show’s original authors as creative consultant, the team will explore the work with a fresh perspective to deliver a thoroughly modern Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Russia’s legendary Moscow Pushkin Drama Theatre makes a triumphant return to New York City Center with the award-winning production of Anton Chekhov's masterpiece—The Cherry Orchard. Directed by Vladimir Mirzoev, this enigmatic and seductive production embodies the spirit of Russia at the turn of the 20th century.

Studio Events and Community Programs
The Studio 5 series takes audiences beyond the proscenium for conversations and live performances from the great dance stars of today. The intimate master class series Front & Center is an evening with award-winning musical theater veterans. City Center On the Move brings free world-class performances to New Yorkers in their own neighborhoods.
