Brigadoon is coming home. We’re thrilled to announce that Steven Pasquale, Kelli O’Hara, and Robert Fairchild will star in Lerner & Loewe’s transcendent romantic fantasy about the past, the present, and what it means to (almost) be in love. City Center’s concert production of Brigadoon will run from November 15-19, 2017, with direction and choreography by Christopher Wheeldon.
The November 15 performance of Brigadoon will be City Center’s annual Gala, honoring Tony Award-winning Broadway producer Stacey Mindich. Funds raised at all six benefit performances will allow City Center to make the best in the performing arts accessible to the widest possible audience by subsidizing affordable tickets throughout the year.
“Brigadoon is a huge part of City Center’s legacy,” explains City Center President & CEO Arlene Shuler. “Between 1950 and 1967, it was revived here six times in star-studded productions featuring everyone from Farley Granger to Edward Villella. We’re very excited to welcome the show home for these benefit performances, and to honor Stacey for her extraordinary achievements at New York City Center and in the world of musical theater. As the co-chair of our Board, she championed the idea of Encores! Off-Center as a home for young artists and audiences; as a producer, she has nurtured important new musicals like Dear Evan Hansen and The Bridges of Madison County on their way to Broadway.”
“I am deeply committed to City Center, which is a beacon of cultural life in New York City,” says Mindich. “This honor means the world to me and I am especially delighted to reunite with two very special colleagues and extraordinary performers, Kelli O’Hara and Steven Pasquale.” The Broadway stars last appeared together in The Bridges of Madison County. Watch them kill it in “One Second and A Million Miles,” a song with a vaguely Brigadoonish sentiment:
None of the Brigadoon stars are strangers to City Center. Kelli O’Hara made her Encores! debut in 2010, playing the lovelorn telephone operator Ella Peterson in Bells Are Ringing. She is a member of our Board of Directors and sang “Hello, Young Lovers” for the first time at our 2014 Gala. Steven Pasquale starred opposite Sutton Foster in the 2015 Encores! Off-Center revival of The Wild Party, and Robert Fairchild last appeared on our stage in Damian Woetzel’s Vail Dance Festival: ReMix NYC. We’re delighted to welcome them back to the fold.
