Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater grew from a now-fabled performance in 1958 in New York City, when Alvin Ailey and a group of young African-American modern dancers changed forever the perception of American dance. Today, led by Artistic Director Robert Battle, AAADT has gone on to perform for an estimated 23 million people in 48 states and in 71 countries on six continents, including two historic residencies in South Africa, and has earned a reputation as one of the most acclaimed international ambassadors of American culture, promoting the uniqueness of the African-American cultural experience and the preservation and enrichment of the American modern dance.
Manhattan Theatre Club, led by Artistic Director Lynne Meadow and Executive Director Barry Grove, is one of the nation’s leading non-profit theaters with a mission of producing innovative and diverse work by playwrights at all stages of their careers, at its Broadway and Off-Broadway theatres. Plays that debut at MTC are performed across the country and around the world, and 6 of them have won Pulitzer Prizes: Doubt, Proof, Ruined, Rabbit Hole, Crimes of the Heart and The Piano Lesson.
