Rent Our Studios

The historic studios at New York City Center are ideal spaces for dance, music, and theater. Our unique studios have served the professional theater and dance community for decades. Located at 130 West 56th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, the City Center studios are appropriate for rehearsals, classes, auditions, studio showings, and workshops. They are available for booking seven days a week, from 10am-10pm.

All studios feature a piano (tuning not included), a small sound system that can be hooked up to phones or computers, portable ballet barres, wall mirrors, air conditioning, and three 15 amp circuits. Boom boxes are available upon request.


Rates

Studio time must be booked in two-hour blocks.

*Additional charges may be required for piano tunings and studio porters.

***Since 2009, City Center has offered subsidized studio space for non-profit dance rehearsals, thanks to the generous support of the New York State Council on the Arts. Please note that availability is limited and that these reduced rates are applicable only to the following “off-hours” periods: Monday-Saturday from 6pm-10pm and Sunday from 10am-10pm. Subsidized hours can be booked up to one month in advance, subject to availability.

Studio Rules

Street shoes are not permitted in the studios when they are being used for rehearsals, auditions, performances, or classes. For dance classes, appropriate footwear must be used.

  • No food or drink (with the exception of bottled water with a screw top).
  • No live percussion or loud amplified sound.
  • No tap shoes.
  • No rosin.
  • No receptions.
  • No storage at any time.
  • Sets and props that do not fit in the elevator are not permitted.

Deposits and Cancellation Policy

  • A 50% non-refundable deposit is required for all rentals that are $1,500 or more.
  • If you cancel your reservation more than 30 business days prior to the first rental date, you will not be charged the full rental fee. If you were required to provide a deposit, that deposit is non-refundable. If you already made full payment, you will receive a credit equal to the amount paid (minus any non-refundable deposit) which can be used toward future City Center bookings. No cash refunds will be given.
  • If notice is given between 29 and eight business days prior to the first rental date, you will be responsible for 50% of the total rental fee.
  • If notice is given less than seven business days prior to the first rental date, you will be liable for 100% of the total rental fee.
  • Cancellation fees are waived for renters of subsidized studio space.
