Are you interested in pursuing a career in musical theater? Start your training this summer with the Preludes! Summer Teen Theater Intensive at New York City Center. This program aims to increase access to high quality pre-professional training in musical theater for up to 30 young artists. The week-long intensive will include master classes with guest artists, foundational musical theater workshops, and the creation of a devised group musical number. Plus, all participants will receive a $250 stipend for their involvement in the program, and lunch will be provided daily.

We are looking for teens who love to sing, dance, and act. No previous training is required. We’re especially interested in folks who show passion and interest in the arts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the age requirement?

Preludes! Summer Teen Theater Intensive is for teens ages 13–18, and ideally for students who will be entering 10th–12th grade in the 2025–2026 school year.

What do I need to prepare for auditions?

You do not need to bring or prepare anything for the first round of auditions. We will provide everything during our time together.

What should I expect to happen during the audition?

We will see a group of up to 30 teens in 90-minute timeslots. During the audition, we’ll spend time working together to learn choreography and music. You’ll then have a chance to sing and dance in small groups to our panel of artists and staff.

What do I wear for the audition?

Wear comfortable clothing and footwear that you can move in! There are no required shoes or clothing for the audition. Please wear whatever will make you move and feel your best.

What kind of teen should audition for the Preludes! Summer Theater Intensive?

We are looking for teens with a passion for musical theater and interest in further developing their skills. In addition to skill assessment in singing, dancing, and acting, we’re also looking for teens with a collaborative spirit and enthusiasm for being part of an ensemble.

Can my parent/guardian observe the audition process?

Due to limitations of space, audition rooms only be open to those auditioning. Parents/guardians can drop off and return at the end of the 90-minute audition time.
