Be a resource for your students and take advantage of City Center’s wide array of professional development workshops—all designed to meet the needs of classroom teachers, teaching artists, and college/graduate students.

Workshop opportunities are offered to educators during the school year. During each workshop, an acclaimed performing artist leads a master class to help you create innovative and exciting lesson plans and develop practical and artistic tools for use in your classroom.

Professional development workshops are offered to educators that participate in our school-time matinees and K-12 programs during the school year (Sep – May).

The job of swinging a musical theater production, or covering the ensemble, is essential to the run of a show. “The Swing of Things,” a two-part workshop, will pull back the curtain on this job and provide an overview of the essential tools and varying approaches to the showstopping and show-saving roles of a swing.

The morning session of the workshop will focus on the basics. Looking back at past City Center Encores! productions, participants will learn about charting and tracking and hear from a panel of swings from the current season. The afternoon session will get participants on their feet as if they were “swinging in." Participants will learn song and staging for two Encores! production numbers and gain practical experience in charting and tracking.
