In-School Workshops

Your students can enjoy an engaging, curriculum-enhancing study of the performing arts with City Center’s teaching artists who are accomplished theater and dance professionals.

Over the course of two workshops, students learn about works presented on City Center’s stage and also have the opportunity to experience either a live or virtual performance. In past seasons, students have created and shared original work with their peers influenced by productions like A Chorus Line, Working: A Musical, Evita, Ailey, and the Flamenco Festival.

Teachers receive Behind the Curtain guides and opportunities to attend professional development sessions to support students’ academic and creative development.

Cost:
$15 per student (includes two in-school workshops and access to one City Center dance or musical theater performance).
$50 fee per school (includes access for one teacher to performance, study guides, and opportunities to attend professional development workshops).

Please note: For in-person workshops, schools must register for a minimum of two classes in order to be eligible for programming.

For more information, please reach out to the Education team at Education@NYCityCenter.org or via phone at 212.763.1221.

In-School Residencies

Immerse your students in the performing arts through our customizable residency programs.

City Center’s professional teaching artists promote student-centered learning and encourage collaboration within your classroom. Students engage in song, dance, and storytelling around musical theater productions from our Encores! series or dance performances, to develop language, conceptual skills, and the confidence to create their own work both individually and as an ensemble. At the end of the program, students showcase their work during a sharing session for their families, friends, and school community.

The in-school residency also includes access to a live or virtual City Center dance or musical theater performance, digital Behind the Curtain guides, and opportunities to attend professional development workshops for each participating educator.

Prices vary depending on how the residency is customized.

Please reach out to the Education team at Education@NYCityCenter.org or via phone at 212.763.1221 to customize goals for your in-school residency.

Lynne and Richard Pasculano Student Matinees

Live digital performances offer students the opportunity to experience the transformative power of the performing arts safely from their homes. Class trips to in-person performances are not currently scheduled.

City Center Education hosts entertaining matinees for school groups in all five boroughs. Each year, this extremely popular program allows over 6,000 students and educators to enjoy world-class performances that enhance students’ learning experience.

Students and teachers receive Behind the Curtain guides, that include information about the production, performers, historical and cultural context, engaging activities, and more. With these resources, teachers can lead dynamic in-class conversations with students both before and after the show to enhance their experience within the classroom.

Student matinees serve as a primer for our more in-depth offerings and are often coupled with in-school workshop and residency programs.

Cost:
$2 per student (includes access to a student matinee)
$50 fee per school (includes access to a student matinee, study guides, and opportunities to attend professional development workshops for each participating educator).

For more information, please reach out to the Education team at Education@NYCityCenter.org or via phone at 212.763.1221.

We look forward to seeing you all at the show.

Early Childhood Dance Residencies

Unlock your PreK-5 students’ creative and artistic voice with City Center’s Early Childhood Dance Residency program.

Dance creation, performance, and reflection are all part of this comprehensive 8 – 32-week program in which City Center’s dance teaching artists actively collaborate with classroom teachers to cultivate students’ confidence and self-expression while preparing them for continuing instruction in dance. Working independently and in groups to master basic movement, choreographic skills, and musical rhythm, students challenge their potential and experience the true joy of dancing.

At the end of the program, students participate in a sharing session for their families and school communities.

Prices vary depending on how the residency is customized.

Connections

If you want to inspire the next generation of dance industry professionals, you need to provide them with impactful experiences and high-quality training.

City Center’s Connections program gives your mature dance students (Grades 7-12) a glimpse into the professional dance world by engaging them in the work of small and mid-sized dance companies.

Participating companies share their unique approach to dance making with your students through workshops hosted at City Center. Each workshop includes a professional dance master class and Q&A session designed to stimulate the dynamic exchange of ideas between students and artists.

Cost: $15 per student for each workshop.
