Important Announcement from New York City Center

April 1, 2020 by New York City Center

Dear Friends,

This is the time of year when we normally look forward to enjoying the outdoors with our fellow New Yorkers, and to welcoming our loyal audiences to take in the extraordinary performances on the City Center stage. But in these uncertain times, we must focus on the health and safety of our artists, staff, and all the audiences and communities we serve. We at City Center are working hard from our respective homes to think strategically about our future, and realistically about the present.

So it’s with a heavy heart that we made the very difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the 2019–2020 season including Encores! Thoroughly Modern Millie, our five-borough community program On the Move, and the three productions that were to make up the summer season of Encores! Off-Center.

This, however, is just an intermission.

Until we are up and running again at full steam, we invite you to enjoy the video series called the Encores! Archives Project, curated by Jack Viertel, by following us on social media @NYCityCenter (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or YouTube). Next week, there will be an updated Education Resources webpage that brings many of our productions to life for K–12 learners and their families. There’s also more online content in the works.

And there is additional good news coming later this spring, when we will announce our exciting 2020–2021 season and send renewal information to our loyal Encores! subscribers. We are dedicated to being the theater for all New Yorkers for many, many years to come.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for being a part of the ever-growing City Center family. You are the ones who make our work possible, and your unwavering support inspires us to look toward rebuilding a strong and promising future. I realize that individuals are affected differently during this crisis, but if you can help us work toward that future, please consider supporting us in any way that you can.

I look forward to seeing you again soon at City Center.

Warmly,

Arlene Shuler
President & CEO
