Now in its fourth season, audiences have a chance to watch award-winning musical theater veterans Alex Brightman, Ali Stroker, and Kate Baldwin as they coach emerging artists on skills that are vital on and off the stage.
Participating artists for Front & Center are chosen through an online audition process.

Kate Baldwin (Hello, Dolly!; upcoming in Love Life at City Center) teaches a master class that invites participants into the immediacy of what they are about to do. Focusing on asking what has happened to their character in the moment before the music begins, students launch into their songs for a deep dive into their material. Using tools from her own experience, Baldwin will lead performers through a dissection of the surprising components of a song you may not have considered until now.

Using movement and vocal performance, Ali Stroker (Oklahoma!, Spring Awakening) teaches a master class leading participants to celebrate differences and overcome challenges. Stroker will share her perspective on interpreting material and navigating the business of theater, while recognizing the qualities that make each performer unique.

Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice the Musical, Encores! Off-Center Assassins) leads a master class that pushes performers outside their comfort zones, towards a more genuinely confident audition technique. By challenging audition norms, Brightman encourages students to take risks, be more malleable, and choose material that showcases their strengths and personality. The audience gets an insider’s look at how artists prepare for Broadway auditions and has the opportunity to dig deeper in a closing Q&A.
