“A KNOCKOUT”

New York Observer

For 50 years, Dance Theatre of Harlem has inspired the world with DTH co-founders Karel Shook and Arthur Mitchell’s revolutionary vision of a multi-ethnic ballet company that performs ground-breaking works with power and grace.

Following the sudden passing of Arthur Mitchell in September we dedicate the 50th anniversary season to him, his life and legacy.

50th Anniversary Celebration Honoring Arthur Mitchell
Wed Apr 10 7pm
An evening of special guests and iconic DTH repertoire excerpts highlighting 50 years of thrilling dance closing with the pageantry and elegance of Geoffrey Holder’s Dougla.

Classic DTH
Fri Apr 12 & Sat Apr 13 8pm
Two evenings of eclectic repertoire featuring exciting new works and revivals that reflect 50 years of DTH artistry. See DTH co-founder & Artistic Director Emeritus Arthur Mitchell’s Tones II, a work he created for the company in 1970 as he re-imagined it for this 50TH anniversary year; the New York premiere of resident choreographer Robert Garland’s as-yet-untitled newest culture bending work and a company revival of Adagietto #5, Royston Maldoom’s sublime trinity set to the music of Gustav Mahler. Geoffrey Holder’s spectacular Dougla closes the program.

Stay after the Friday night performance for Inside The Legacy, a special conversation celebrating Arthur Mitchell with Artistic Director Virginia Johnson and founding Dance Theatre of Harlem company members.

Family Matinee
Sat Apr 13 2pm
